Hike Notes
Today was by far my least favorite day of the trip. Not really because of one thing in particular, but because of a bunch of small things:
- Left the Lake Distrct and the scenery got pretty bland
- Crummy weather: lots of rain and mud, some wind.
- Tim's shoes weren't fitting right and I was sliding around all day in them
- it was long.
That being said there were a few highlights. At the very beginning, for a short short while, we walked along The Hobbit Trail.
There were some nice open views o the countryside.
We came across these ancient (~6000 year old) concentric stone circles that we got to have a break at. Unfortunately, it was kind of hard to capture the effect on camera.
But yea, other than that, there wasn't much else to see...
Since my shoes didn't fit right all day, my feet were pretty wrecked by the end and I wasn't the happiest camper. Was very glad to reach the bus and get out of there.

The Breaking Of The Fellowship
And with that we end the first leg of the coast to coast. All my new British friends went back to their respective homes and plan on doing the other legs on future trips, while the Americans and Canadians all boarded a bus to move camps from Keswick to Richmond for the second leg in the Yorkshire Dales. There were lots of bitter sweet goodbyes to be had. We made sure to get an email list going to stay in touch. It was great getting to know all of them, especially Tim and Sue. I hope to see them again someday!

Hikers Exposed: Fast Friends
Maybe the one major highlight during the walk today was talking with Sam at lunch. She kind of pulled me aside and asked "Hey, you're a millennial, right?" Ugh. Yea, I guess. "I'm thinking about proposing to my boyfriend when I get back home. Does that sound dumb or tacky to you?" I told her no way! It's the 21st century! But also said that only she'd know how her boyfriend would react to that kind of role reversal. I must of said something right becuse she smiled and gave me a big hug. "You're definitely going to be invited!" She made me write down my address on a slip of paper which she tucked away in her wallet. I knew people made life long friends on these kinds of trips, but I didn't realize it happened so fast! I wonder if her cousin will be at this wedding...
