C2C Day 9: An All Around Pleasant Day

Hike Notes

Walked along the river for a ways out of Keld before starting the ascent of the day. It was a lot prettier than the day before.

On the way up we saw some neat stone structures. One had a small footbridge which I promptly sat on to have a snack.

Weeeee!

Weeeee!

It got pretty flat at the top of the hill where we walked by some old lead mining quarrys. Got a few good views in from the top before having to head back down into Reeth.

I was feeling pretty good on the way down, and the underfoot was really nice. So I kind of just let gravity do the work and started sort of jogging. It felt great! And I got to Reeth in time for a couple pints before the bus got there, so that was fun. Though my feet weren't in a great state at the end.

The Talbot Hotel

So, I've been in Richmond a couple days now and I am really enjoying it! Great food. Cool atmosphere and my accomodation, the Talbot hotel, is great. It's less of a hotel and more of a set of rooms on a floor above a pub (score!). It's in the center of town, and I have my own bathroom with a tub! I've been having a relaxing soak after my walks (I made sure to pick up some bubble bath for extra relaxation). I also have a place to do laundry.

This didn't work as well as I thought it would... I took them to the laundromat the next day.

The couple that runs the hotel and pub are very nice and provide a great breakfast in the morning. I'm a sucker for the full English (with blood pudding!).

The pub in the evening is kinda cool too. Filled with older locals and their dogs. They're up till around 10 or 11 playing classic rock, those crazy hooligans.

A little pricy all together, but a great place to unwind after a big walk.

Hikers Exposed: Worried About Sam

Sam is not doing well. She was at the back again today. Way at the back. Rockin' Roy fell behind to walk with her and when they finally got into Reeth he was practically holding her up.

I got a good look at her on the bus ride back to Richmond and she was very pale. Her eyes were bloodshot and tired. She spent the whole bus ride in silence staring out the window.

I tried to get a look at her arm to see how it was doing but it was covered with her long sleeve shirt and jacket (why she was wearing these on by far the hottest day of our walk so far is beyond me). Even through the layers I could tell she still had a fair amount of bandage where she scraped that tree the other day.

After we got off the bus, and everyone dispersed, I caught up to Sam and expressed my concern. She looked a little annoyed and told me she already agreed with Rockin' Roy to take tomorrow off to see a doctor. You could see the dissapointment in her face. She turned and walked off as she massaged her injured arm. I decided to leave it at that.

I'll certainly miss her on the walk tomorrow, but she needs to make sure she is ok before she keeps going. I'll check in with her first thing after we get back tomorrow.
